Winter Snowfall
The sky was closing in with gray as we fled north for another weekend of tree planting. Mid day and here too the sky was failing, giving in to the southerly blow.
As afternoon crept by the temperature fell. Soon the inevitable rain is falling. Streaking down on the bitter wind, now swirling into a flurry of softly settling flakes. Melting in the mud.
The air outside is choked with billowing, gusty whiteness. The silent assault of snow.
Sometime in the night things moved on. The morning came with brimming anticipation. But subsequent rain and water logged ground conspired against any buildup of snow. But up on the hills and amongst the trees the ground was scattered white.
